Googlebar Lite 4.7.4
A new build of Googlebar Lite is now available. This release fixes a bug that somehow cropped up with the release of Firefox 3.6: word searches would get stuck if the terms being searched for appeared in a text edit control. This should no longer be the case. Googlebar Lite is now using the same functionality found in the quick find bar, which should hopefully keep things working.
As always, if you spot a problem, let me know!

April 9, 2010 at 6:25 amHi Jonah. I use your Googlebar Lite plugin constantly. Very nice. I have a feature request that would be pretty easy. Google now has “search options” that you can open on the left sidebar. These options are very helpful for image searching, etc., yet there is currently no way to set a preference to have the options stay open. You have to click them open and reset your options for each search.
An easy remedy to keep it open would be an GBL options checkbox that would simply append “&tbo=1″ to the query string.
It would also be cool to remember the actual search options, but that might take a little more effort.
Anyway, that would be a cool time saver for those of us who do finer grained searches.
Thanks for making GBL.

June 24, 2010 at 2:42 amHello,
When will you create a Chrome version of this fabulous Google Lite bar ? Chrome is not so easy, I prefer Google lite for his ability to read a document easier, to search for news, images easier,…
Cdly.

June 24, 2010 at 9:56 amAt this time, I have no plans to port Googlebar Lite to Chrome. The extension support in Chrome isn’t as fully-fledged as I’d like it to be; perhaps when support improves I’ll port it over.

June 27, 2010 at 8:48 amHow about adding about:config (or other) support for https://encrypted.google.com? You used to have support for the Google Sandbox search test when it was around…encrypted search is even better.

June 27, 2010 at 11:34 amI am planning on adding the secure search option in the next release of Googlebar Lite. It will be a full-fledged option, appearing in the Googlebar Lite options dialog.

July 9, 2010 at 8:58 amThanks for a very nice piece of software.
Gbar Lite doesn’t work correctly with FF 4.0b1 : The toolbar is there but is completeletly void: no buttons, search field, etc…
Any update in the works?

July 9, 2010 at 10:01 amI have not yet tried Googlebar Lite on Firefox 4. Perhaps I can give it a try this weekend and see what’s going on.

July 10, 2010 at 3:24 pmI was able to successfully install Googlebar Lite into a recent nightly build of Firefox 4.0; there were no problems from what I could see.
If you right click the Googlebar Lite toolbar and select Customize, you’ll probably find the Googlebar Lite main toolbar item in the toolbox. Drag it to the GBL toolbar and things should restore themselves.
Just so you know, there are actually two GBL ‘buttons’ in the toolbox: one toggles the toolbar (it has a plus sign next to the logo) and the other is the toolbar bundle itself. You want the latter of the two. I plan on improving the name of the toggle button in the next release. Good luck!

July 10, 2010 at 8:29 pmI did a fresh clean install of FF 4.0b1, and indeed GBL works without a hitch.
A couple of wishes for the next version :
1. Buttons for Google Mail and for Calendar.
2. Is it possible to have “Google suggest” in the Search box?

July 26, 2010 at 5:45 amHi Jonah,
Thanks for making GBL! I can’t believe it took me so long to find, but I’ve been using a hacked version of the original googlebar for some years now.
I’m glad to see you have retained most of the popular features. One feature that would be nice (and was missing from gb as well?) is the ability to add my own search engines. I see on the FAQ you have been asked to add search engines and are considering them on a case by case basis, but being able to ‘add your own’ would address that too.
Also one minor improvement would be to sort the ‘google site to use’ in general options. I couldn’t find mine and after a minute or so looking I found it by typing it in.
Looking forward to secure searching!
Thanks again,
Craig
