Replacing Google Dictionary

Aug 5, 2011

For reasons unknown, Google Dictionary has been shut down. Googlebar Lite has a dedicated Google dictionary search function, which now won't work as advertised. What, if anything, should I replace this search type with? I will not go back to using dictionary.com, seeing as they have rather nefarious practices.

Is there an online dictionary that you would like to see me support? If no decent suggestions arise, I'll probably just remove that search type from the extension.

I use the Google Dictionary all the time... Suggestion: http://www.google.com/search?q=quark&tbs=dfn:1&ie=UTF-8 OT: I hacked the extension to add a "Clear Search History" button in the leftmost position. It works well (i.e. saves time) if you are using the Highlighter and Search Words settings.

You can try the application 'Dictionary .NET' http://fishcodelib.com/Dictionary.htm

Morat: Thanks for the link. I wasn't aware that the dictionary modifier was available as a search parameter. This is what I'll go with!

Is there a way to let the user choose which dictionary she'd like to use?

I replaced the Google dictionary search with a similar Google search that results in the search term's definition. At this time, I have no plans to add support for additional dictionaries.
