Googlebar Lite 4.8.2
The past two releases had a pretty severe bug impacting people who search in languages that use extended characters. I have resolved the problem, and version 4.8.2 is now available. My apologies for all these bugs. With as much code as I updated, stuff was bound to fall through the cracks, as we’ve now seen. If you spot any more problems, please let me know.
This will be the last version that supports Firefox 3.6.

You have an option to “Disable Google search autocorrect” with the nfpr=1 modifier. How about an option to disable Google search autocomplete with the complete=0 modifier?

December 5, 2011 at 9:44 amThe “Disable Google search auto-correct” option directly affects use of Googlebar Lite. However, a search auto-complete option would not directly affect Googlebar Lite, because the extension does not provide automatic suggestions directly from the search box. This option (to my knowledge) can be disabled from the Google search preferences page, and is stored as a cookie: http://www.google.com/preferences

December 6, 2011 at 12:53 pmIn the thread, Google Employee wrote: “With regard to your post, it’s in keeping with our vision of a unified Google search experience to make popular, useful features part of the default experience, rather than maintain different versions of Google. As Autocomplete quality has improved, we felt it was appropriate to have it always on for all of our users.”
Google Autocomplete, unlike Google Instant, can not be disabled in Google search settings.
If anyone else dislikes the autocomplete feature, then you can change “&ie=UTF-8″ to “&ie=UTF-8&complete=0″ in the googlebarlite.js file.

December 29, 2011 at 5:46 amBecause of the recent abandoning of support for Google toolbar for newst versions of Firefox, I was looking for the substitution and have found this nice toolbar. Still, autocomplete doesn’t work at all. Am I doing something wrong, or search autocomplete is not supported by this toolbar?

December 29, 2011 at 10:22 amThe feature you are describing is called “Google Suggest.” Googlebar Lite does not support this feature.

January 5, 2012 at 2:40 pmI have two installs (one in Windows 7 64-bit and one in Windows XP 32-bit) that work just fine, using Firefox 9.0.1. Have you made sure the toolbar shows up in the “View > Toolbars” menu? Make sure there’s a checkmark next to it. Also make sure the toolbar item is on the toolbar (right click the toolbar and select “Customize” to see if the Googlebar Lite toolbar item shows up in the toolbox).
