Jul 5, 2012

A small update to Googlebar Lite has just been posted. This release fixes a bug that caused the toolbar to shut down anytime toolbar customization took place. Here's the full change log:

  • Made a few minor improvements to the installer manifest.
  • Removed the embedded JAR file from within the XPI.
  • Bumped the maxVersion to 20.*
  • Bug Fix: Corrected an issue that was causing the toolbar to shut down after toolbar customization.

Improvements to the keyboard shortcut mechanisms will hopefully make it into the next release. It's on my TODO list.

Thanks for making this, Google Toolbar has been barely struggling to survive on the latest version of Firefox, so I decided to try this out. Would it be possible to implement custom search buttons (such as for Wikipedia or IMDB)? it was one of the features I was fond of when Google Toolbar still worked. Also Google bookmarks would be nice, but GBookmarks add-on is sufficient for now.

I'm glad you enjoy Googlebar Lite! At the moment, I have no intention of adding custom search buttons. That seems to me to be outside the scope of the extension's intended purpose.

I have used your toolbar from the start and would be lost without it! I'd like to suggest alphabetization of the search terms saved in the drop down box please! Thank you!

I'd love to fix this problem at some point. The XUL control I use for the search box does not offer a sorting mechanism out of the box, so fixing this would involve rolling my own control. One of these days I hope to get around to doing that.

I like using Googlebar Lite. I would find it useful to be able to select Gmail as an icon in the toolbar buttons. Thanks.

Hi, Thank you very much for the extension! I've one small thing I'd like to ask you, FF changed the new tab location from "about:blank" to "about:newtab" - thus it would be nice if you could change the condition to trigger a search in a new tab to following: if(window.content.document.location != "about:blank" && window.content.document.location != "about:newtab" && this.Prefs.SearchInTab.value) I think this is no change of the expected behaviour, since "about:newtab" is basically already a new tab and thus there's no need to open another one even with SearchInTab enabled.

This is a fantastic suggestion, Peter. I'll be sure to fix this for the next release!

Hello, Great work. Trying to use it instead of Google Toolbar for Firefox. One great feature I miss is search suggestions. Is it possible to add this feature? Thank you.

Search suggest is currently not slated to be added to Googlebar Lite. My goal with the extension is to keep it as light-weight as possible.

Hi Jonah, thank you for Googlebar Lite. I used to use it in times of the official Googlebar. So it was no matter, when Google recycled the firefox searchbar. Do you have a hint, how to include Googlebar Lite into the CCleaner cleanup procedure? Thanks Hans

Hi Hans! I'm glad you like Googlebar Lite. I'm not sure how it can be integrated into the CCleaner cleanup procedure. Having never used CCleaner, I'm not sure what hooks would be needed. You can clean the search history manually through the Googlebar Lite main menu, or you can disable search history altogether through the Googlebar Lite options.

Thanks Jonah, I tried both ways, however they don't suit my PC habits. I like to draw on histories of all kinds. Once in a while I'd clean up everything and as you know, there are many locations I would have to drive by. Supposedly the history of Googlebar Lite is written to some profile folder within firefox. If you could point out that spot I might try to add the address to ccleaners routine. If successful, I will be happy to post back here.

I always appreciated the toolbar but i been wondering if it was possible to get it also for google chrome... some flash game cant hold two logged account at same time so i started to use chrome wit firefox. sadly in my multi-browsing activity's i dint noticed if there was some add-on for chrome that is like your toolbar. I really wish to see that little search highlight system in chrome, to the right of the address/search bar.
