Googlebar Lite 4.9.12 Search Box Width

Apr 4, 2014

Here's how to use the Custom preset value for the new "Search box width" preference in Googlebar Lite 4.9.12:

  1. Select the Custom preset for the search box width in the Googlebar Lite options dialog
  2. Visit the about:config URL in Firefox
  3. Modify the value for the extensions.googlebarlite.search_box_width preference

I'm very disappointed. I distinctly remember being able to drag the search box to where I wanted it to be. And it was as wide as I wanted it to be. After the update is looks tiny and none of the preset options are good for me. So after hunting for a solution I find out that now I have to dive into the configuration to change the bloody width? I don't get it. Why make something less usable on purpose? It's like everybody's moving backwards.

The culprit was 4.9.12 update. Proudly proclaimed: Removed the search box resize gripper, and replaced it with a new search box width preference. Why? Was the gripper a bug. Hell if i know or understand. Maybe there's good reason but it seems to me like the a solution in search of a problem that created an unnecessary complication.

No need to panic; version 4.9.15 now reverts to the old layout, and I'll stick with this going forward. Sorry for the annoyance. It'll take a few days to show up on the official add-ons site, since add-ons need to be reviewed.
