Version 3.0
New Features
- An entirely new window framework has been implemented, allowing the window to be resized.
- New program options allows either single-click or double-click launching of shortcuts.
- Sims Launch can now automatically be minimized to the task bar when launching The Sims. This frees up valuable memory resources for the game, improving performance.
- The game launch dialog can now be skipped when launching The Sims. This allows the user to enter the various startup options only once, and prevents having to click through the launch dialog each time the game is started.
- Shortcuts can now be launched via the keyboard (pressing the Enter key).
- Shortcut properties can now be viewed by pressing the [Alt] + [Enter] key combination.
- New HTML help has been implemented.
Bug Fixes
- The path information now displays properly in the "Details" view when a program shortcut is added.
- Item names now fit properly when using the "list" view for shortcuts.
Miscellaneous
- The program options toolbar button image has been swapped with the shortcut properties toolbar button image.
- The delete shortcut keyboard accelerator has been changed from Ctrl+D to the Delete key.
- New program logo added to about box.
Version 2.0
New Features
- Program has been restructured (from a dialog based application to an SDI). Most notably, this adds a toolbar and status bar to the main program window.
- New viewing options allow the shortcuts to be viewed in a similar fashion to files in Windows Explorer. The available view styles are Large Icons, Small Icons, List, and Details.
- Shortcut properties are now edited in the same dialog (regardless of the type of shortcut).
- New "Reload Icon" menu option will cause the selected shortcut’s icon resource to get reloaded, repairing any "broken" icons that may be related to an invalid path (or an initially missing executable).
- The total number of shortcuts is now displayed in the status bar.
- The "Skip Introduction" option (in the "Launch The Sims" dialog) is now enabled by default. This option causes the introduction movie to be skipped when launching the game, which speeds up the loading process.
Bug Fixes
- Folder shortcuts no longer display the "error" icon when added for the first time. This bug was, for some strange reason, only in version 1.3 (not in previous releases).
- Disabling the "snap window" option now actually turns off the snapping feature.
- Two shortcuts that point to the same target are no longer allowed. Attempting to add a shortcut to a target that already exists in the target list will result in an error message.
- Inserting a shortcut to the Sims Launch executable is no longer allowed. A shortcut to the game executable is also not allowed.
- Directory selection dialogs no longer create a window that is external to the Sims Launch program (which resulted in a separate button on the task bar).
- The constraints for repositioning the main program window have been removed. The error checking at program startup should still prevent the window from snapping to an area outside of the screen space.
Miscellaneous
- The main program dialog has been widened.
- The logo has been updated in the about box.
- Corrected some grammatical and wording errors in this help file.
Version 1.3
Bug Fixes
- Repositioning the main program window is now limited by the desktop (workspace) area. This should prevent the window from "snapping" to an area outside the screen, making the program inaccessible.
- Error checking is now included at the beginning of the program to prevent the program from starting outside the screen resolution.
Version 1.2
New Features
- A couple of program options are now available:
- The first option enables the main program to "snap" to the screen edge (at a user specified distance). This makes window placement much easier and more user friendly than before.
- The second option allows the main program window to stay on top of all other open windows.
- The main program window now opens at its last screen location.
Bug Fixes
- Error checking has been updated in the program shortcut properties dialog. Sims Launch will now complain when an invalid program executable path is entered.
- If a program shortcut cannot load an icon from the program executable, an "error" icon appears in its place. This usually indicates that the shortcut is pointing to an invalid program executable (i.e., it doesn’t exist). A warning will appear if the user tries to launch the shortcut.
- When the target location for a program shortcut is changed, the program’s icon is also updated.
Version 1.1
New Features
- Shortcuts can now be added for folders, allowing quick access to frequently used locations.
Bug Fixes
- The working directory for shortcuts is now set correctly. This also applies to the game launching feature.
- The SLF data file format has changed slightly (to handle the new folder shortcuts).
- Double clicking a shortcut is now handled differently, preventing some potential issues from cropping up.
Miscellaneous
- Changed some keyboard mnemonics in the main program menu.
- Renamed a few of the menu items in both the main program menu and the right-click popup menu.
- Minor clean-up to the help file.
Version 1.0
